The University College Hospital, Ibadan has remained open to patients in need of medical attention in spite of the nationwide strike called by the organised labour. Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had on Wednesday called on all its members and affiliate unions to join its 7-day nationwide warning strike beginning on Thurs, Sept. 27 over the non-payment of a new national minimum wage. A resident doctor, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that the National Association of Resident Doctors and the Nigeria Medical Association were not part of the strike called by the NLC and the Trade Unions Congress (TUC). A nurse told Newsmen that it was business as usual as they had not been given any formal notice of the strike. Speaking with Newsmen, the Public Relations Officer, UCH, Mr Deji Bobade, said that staffers of the hospital had not received a formal notice of a strike. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the inconclusive governorship election in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has thanked electorate in the state for their kind support in Saturday’s governorship poll. Adeleke led the race with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than that of Gboyega Oyetola of the APC. The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where voting were cancelled. Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape,  declared the poll inconclusive. Benue State Police Command on Friday confirmed the killing of five people in Tse Vue village of Ukum Local Government Area of the state by gunmen believed to be wanted kingpin’s gang, Terwase Akwaza, popularly known as Gana. Spokesman of the command, DSP Moses Yamu, confirmed this in a statement. The European Union (EU) Election Observers have said that they would monitor today’s governorship election in Osun State with an eye on vote-buying. The EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Ketil Karlsen, who said this at a news conference yesterday in Osogbo, the state capital, added that the EU was hopeful that the modalities put in place by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to check vote-buying during the election would yield positive results. THE United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, has pleaded with its President, Joe Ajaero, to suspend his plan to contest the Imo State gubernatorial election in 2019. According to the labour centre, this is for the sake of the survival of the ULC until such a time that it becomes more matured and stable.
